Extreme Low Latency Streaming to the MAX!!
I spent about 3 years being super frustrated with Twitch latency and the slow build up of delay of sound to video that seems to be an issue with twitch OBS. Here is the fix;
Lowest Latency and Noise levels I have been able to find
Ableton Live 11 to OBS on PC
Audio path is all digital from Ableton Live 11 to OBS.
Focusrite Clarrett 8PreUSB to SPDIF Coax to Optical Digital to Digital adapter to Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z SE.
Problem: Really hard to get a clean audio signal from my DAW to OBS even though they are on the same PC with out latency, buffering or noise.
Historical trials (2017-2022);
Some of these worked, but didn't work RIGHT.
Shout out to Echo Locations and the Twitch Music Assist forum for ideas.
Loopback (Native in some DAWs and Hardware)- 8PreUSB doesn’t support loopback, only the Thunderbolt model does.
Focusrite 8PreThunderbolt with Loopback - Doesn’t support PCs built with AMD Threadripper processors (I’m not buying another another PC just to have Intel) *Full refund (Thanks Focusrite!!!)
VBaudiosoftware Virtual Cables and Voicemeter Banana - too much noise.
Voicemeter Banana with Analog cable from I/O to PC Soundcard - too much noise for me. Although I don't notice the noise on Astravert or Echo's streams.
Reaper.fm Restream plugin - Caused buffering delay which got intolerable after an hour or so.
*Saw a Leon Bratt video an he said to always open OBS in Administrator mode as the last application you open to reduce latency. Did not test this.
What worked for me;
Configuration was super easy. It is also sending my computer audio (music, youtube etc.) over the same signal in case I want to play something on stream.
To avoid this you can change your sound output on your computer from your DAW to anything else.
Notes: Make sure your DAW, I/O and OBS are using the same sample rate. (44.1kHz for me)
